<li>Hiring and managing staff, including establishing task priorities, and conducting<br />

<li>Creating &amp; maintaining an organizational chart of all ensemble and staff subcommittees.</li>

<p><strong>V. Artistic Management                     </strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Coordinating relationship with ensemble Booking Management, including reviewing contracts and coordinating scheduling.</li>
<li>Negotiating and executing artistic contracts and agreements including with Booking Manager, key residencies and relevant performers and composers in conjunction with the Booking Manager.</li>
<li>Providing leadership for timely planning of future seasons, project development and artistic growth.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">5-7 years minimum arts management experience in roles of increasing responsibility that included financial and personnel management, and artistic coordination.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">An interest in or appreciation of contemporary classical music.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">Astute interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">Experience negotiating contracts with artists and vendors.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">Strong organizational skills, detail orientation and ability to think and act proactively.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.54em;">Familiarity with relevant information technologies (database, MS Office, email/web/cloud based applications).</span></li>

<p><strong>JOB PARAMETERS</strong></p>

<p><strong>ABOUT EIGHTH BLACKBIRD PERFORMING ARTS </strong></p>
<p>The Chicago-based contemporary music ensemble, eighth blackbird, combines the finesse of a string quartet, the energy of a rock band and the audacity of a storefront theater company. In addition to its longstanding relationships as Ensemble- in-Residence at the University of Richmond and the University of Chicago, the sextet commenced a three-year term as Ensemble-in-Residence at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music in 2012. The full-time ensemble maintains an active touring schedule with performances throughout the U.S., and abroad. They have appeared at most major American concert halls and series and have commissioned and premiered numerous new works, several of which have been recognized by Pulitzer prizes and nominations as well as Grammy Awards.  A decade-long relationship with Cedille Records has produced six acclaimed recordings, three of which have won Grammy Awards. <p>The Manager of Coaching Activities develops and implements the New World Symphony’s coaching activities, Fellow professional development, and alumni programs in partnership with New World Symphony Fellows, alumni, and staff.</p>
<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Responsible      for all visiting NWS coaches’ contracts, Visa petitions (if applicable),      travel, and accommodations. Facilitate coach participation in recording      segments for NWS’ Virtual Library, a metadata-rich repository of music      education videos.</li>
<li>Under      the direction of the Senior Vice President for Musician Advancement &amp;      Dean of Musicians, develop and oversee all coaching activities for NWS      Fellows and collaborate with partner institutions using institutional      technological capabilities.</li>
<li>Supervise      and act a resource for Fellow-led productions including Musicians’ Forum      concerts.</li>
<li>Record      Fellow event attendance and alumni information using ArtsVision database.</li>
<li>Manage      issuance of F-1 student Visas and addenda using SEVIS for foreign national      Fellows.</li>
<li>Prepare      reports and statistical data regarding Fellows, alumni, and coaches as      needed.</li>
<li>Staff      Musician Advancement-related events as needed (including some evening and      weekend events).</li>
<li>Manage      all meetings and social events related to Musician Advancement and      Community Engagement.</li>
<li>Assist      with developing and managing the budget for Musician Advancement      department.<strong></strong></li>

<p>Florida State University is seeking Director, Seven Days of Opening Nights Fine Arts Festival.  The Director is responsible for all aspects of the high-visibility arts festival at Florida State University from initial planning through final reporting.</p>
<p><strong>Requirements: </strong> A Bachelor&#8217;s degree and six years relevant experience or a combination of relevant post high school education and experience equal to ten years.</p>
<p><strong>Preferred: </strong> Applicant should have demonstrated success in planning, managing and organizing projects and community relations events/activities.  Preferred qualifications include at least five years experience in arts administration management, university-presenting and an advanced degree.</p>
<p>Essential responsibilities of the position:</p>
<ul>
<li>Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting and performances of the FSU Fine Arts Festival entitled Seven Days of Opening Nights.  This includes fundraising, marketing, advertising, contract negotiation, production, scheduling, ticket sales, sponsorship sales and sponsor relations, membership sales, publications, web site, social media, grant writing and other associated duties.</li>
<li>Serves as the primary resource for the implementation and presentation of the Festival, working closely with administration and faculty in the arts, as well as the volunteer community council.</li>
<li>Creates, implements and manages events supporting fundraising and friendraising activities of the Festival and other events supporting the mission of the University.</li>
<li>Manages staff of part-time programs assistant and part-time fundraising/development coordinator.</li>
<li>Manages membership and sponsor database.</li>
<li>Works with various off-campus organizations in Tallahassee and the surrounding communities (e.g., arts organizations, City of Tallahassee, Florida A&amp;M University, Tallahassee Community College, Leon County Schools, etc.) to create visibility and encourage collaboration.</li>
<li>Establishes and implements procedures to improve and enhance constituent relations through University Relations.</li>
<li>Responsible for Fine Arts Festival budget.</li>

<h3>Direct Responsibilities</h3>
<p><strong>Artistic Planning</strong></p>
<ul type="square">
<li>Directs the planning, programming, and production of all musical programs for the summer school and festival including selection of repertoire, formation of ensembles, and recruitment/engagement of guest artists and conductors.</li>
</ul>
<ul type="square">
<li>Oversees staging and production of orchestra concerts, a fully-staged opera, opera scenes, chamber programs, recitals, and a comprehensive masterclass schedule; negotiates, prepares, and executes contracts with performance venues; and recruits and hires summer production staff.</li>

<li>Manages the master performance and educational schedule, working with the artistic, student services, and operations staff to implement all aspects of performance and production.</li>

<li>Develops new programs and artistic initiatives that support the Music Academy’s strategic plan.</li>

The director recruits, hires, and supervises an 8-10 member summer artistic staff.</p>
<h3>Candidate Profile</h3>
<p>The ideal candidate is a professional in the classical music industry with minimum of five years successful experience working with distinguished musicians and/or faculty, staff and fellows in a high-level training environment. S/he will combine broad knowledge of orchestral, chamber, and vocal music literature with the ability to engage artists and develop creative programs for concerts, recitals, and special events. Such knowledge will form the basis for the development and implementation of an artistic direction for the institution.</p>
<p>Candidate will have excellent management, organizational, and supervisory skills. S/he will be experienced in developing and managing budgets. S/he will have strong knowledge of and experience in performance production and scheduling. Experience with Arts Vision and/or OPAS a plus.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will excel in a collaborative, highly communicative team environment.  S/he will have excellent written and verbal skills, and will be a person of high energy, stamina, integrity and ethical standards. S/he will have a passion for classical music and a deep respect for the music profession. An advanced degree in music, music education, administration or related field is preferred.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal">The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) invites applications for its Director of Artistic Operations, the principal manager of all operational aspects of the award-winning symphony, jazz, composition, commissioning, and chamber music programs of the NYYS.<span>  </span>S/he reports to the Executive Director.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The position offers a superlative opportunity to gain exposure to the procedures of operating a symphony orchestra, 17-piece jazz band, composing seminars, and chamber music program, with the added advantage of an overview of operations not normally gained in larger cultural institutions. Under new executive leadership as of September 2011, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to join in celebrating the organization’s 50<sup>th</sup> anniversary in 2012/13 and strategize about the next fifty.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Duties and Responsibilities</span></em></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Working with four artistic directors and their staffs, s/he ensures success of their programs in accordance with the organization’s mission. Duties include date coordination and rehearsal logistics through management of performance venues, box office, and operations. Acts as primary liaison to partner organizations. Assists in recruitment efforts for all programs.<strong></strong>As part of team effort, contributes to the marketing, publicity, and advertising of all performances, including the orchestra’s three-concert series in Carnegie Hall, by writing and distributing press releases. As part of a full-time team of four, the Director of Artistic Operations trains and supervises the programmatic staff (Orchestra, Jazz Band, Making Score, and Chamber Music managers, and a Librarian).<span>  </span>S/he also recruits interns for the office and works with the Parents Guild officers and volunteers.</p>

Director of Production responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>

Participation as a member of the management staff and taking an active role in annual and operational planning, as well as long range production and facilities planning.</p>

Originate and supervise strict adherence for all operating budgets as they pertain to the production departments.</p>

Coordinating all technical aspects of production including scenery, lighting, properties, wardrobe, wigs/make-up, sound and surtitles.</p>

Taking on all responsibilities as direct supervisor for all production staff including IATSE stagehands, stage management, production coordinator and any other production personnel</p>

Sourcing, evaluating and recommending scenery, costumes and lighting designers for future PBO productions.</p>

Acting as liaison with Kravis Center in all matters concerning programming and bookings for Palm Beach Opera events. The General Director may opt to have direct contact for booking arrangements but the Director of Production must coordinate with the Kravis stage management personnel about the intended activities of PBO.</p>

Acting as an information coordinator between designers and directors.</p>

Maintaining inventory of company production assets and be in charge of all company warehousing.</p>

Originate Auto Cad or Vectorworks production ground plans and hanging plots for use by lighting designers, stage management and IATSE crew heads.</p>

Act as a technical director for presentations by PBO in venues other than the Kravis Center</p>

Other related duties as assigned from time to time by General Director.</p>

<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 12px; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent; line-height: 16px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Experience:<br />
5 years as Director of Production for a Level II opera company or a similar background in theater.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 12px; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent; line-height: 16px; margin: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Equipment Operation:<br />
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel; also Autocad and Vectorworks</p>

Position requires lifting. Valid driver license and reliable transportation required. Position also requires working nights and weekends during season as per the rehearsal and performance schedule.</p>
