Gannon University, a Catholic university, invites applications for the full-time position of General Manager of the Erie Chamber Orchestra (ECO). Currently celebrating its 38th season, the ECO is comprised of approximately 40 core member musicians and is a per-service orchestra that performs at a variety of local venues. All concerts are free of charge to the public.
Highlights from the current season include world-renowned violinist Midori, a Halloween-night presentation of Hitchcock’s Psycho with live orchestra, a world-premiere by local composer Christina Dolanc and a performance from David Kim, Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The ECO performs seven of its nine concerts at Cathedral Prep Auditorium, an 800-seat venue in downtown Erie. Additional venues are featured across the city as well through the 13 total events presented from September through June each season. Additionally, the orchestra has an expansive educational outreach component that reaches 10,000+ children each year.
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in an appropriate discipline. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and extensive professional experience will be considered in lieu of a master’s degree. Responsibilities include oversight of all daily operations and concert operations for the Orchestra, serving as the representative of the Orchestra both within Gannon and externally to the Erie region, leading and collaborating with the grants department to secure funding, and working in close cooperation with the Music Director to ensure that artistic decisions are made according to schedule and within budget. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
