Job Description

Love cutting edge music? Have an entrepreneurial spirit? Self-motivated and thrive on multi-tasking? As we begin our 15th year, Fulcrum Point New Music Project is looking for an Executive Director with proven fundraising skills to expand the organization’s audience and donor base. The Executive Director will work closely with our internationally acclaimed Artistic Director to produce the highest quality performances and manage the business end of the organization. Must be familiar with Chicago’s arts scene and the non-profit sector. Must have solid management experience.

FUNDRAISING

GRANTS/FOUNDATIONS, INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE DONORS

  • Work with Board members to develop and implement short-term and long-term fundraising plan
    • Drive plan implementation to achieve annual goals
  • Research corporate giving programs, foundations and individuals for new/expanded giving sources
  • Prepare/supervise the preparation of all material for grant applications; track all applications and report on grants
  • Process/track all donations
  • Develop and maintain contact with corporate, foundation and major individual donors
  • Partner with Artistic Director and Board members to develop appeal letters/mailings to individual donors

MARKETING/AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT/COMMUNICATION

  • Work with Marketing/PR consultants, Artistic Director and Board members to review existing audiences and explore/recommend growth strategies
  • Develop annual plans in support of growth strategies
  • In partnership with Artistic Director and graphic designer, manage the development and distribution of print materials, including programs,  promotional materials/mailings and social media
  •  Analyze marketing and PR effectiveness/ROI per program/initiative; report to Board

WEBSITE

  • Coordinate content development/maintenance with web consultant
    • Ensure homepage is updated regularly
  • Manage the creation and distribution of web-based communications/appeals
  • Manage email lists; retrieve/respond to inquiries from general mailbox

Community Relations

  • Identify potential partners for Fulcrum Point including:
    • Institutional (corporate, government, non-profit)
    • Community
    • Peer organizations (arts, film, music, etc.)
  • Work with partners to leverage in-kind resources: venues, catering, cross-promotion, sponsorship, etc.
  • Seek opportunities to reach new audiences
  • Identify key events for strategic partnerships
  • In collaboration with Board President, coordinate Board meetings, agendas and follow-up/minutes; provide Directors with regular reports/materials, including financial reports, fundraising updates, concert information, and additional materials, as needed
  • Maintain Board of Directors files, board book and official documents
  • Identify potential board member candidates; prepare information for new board members
  • Coordinate committee meetings, as needed

ADMINISTRATIVE

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • In collaboration with Board President, coordinate Board meetings, agendas and follow-up/minutes; provide Directors with regular reports/materials, including financial reports, fundraising updates, concert information, and additional materials, as needed
  • Maintain Board of Directors files, board book and official documents
  • Identify potential board member candidates; prepare information for new board members
  • Coordinate committee meetings, as needed

FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT

  • Oversee the timely and accurate maintenance and reporting activities related to the organization’s routine bookkeeping, budgeting, financial reporting, tax filing, insurance and auditing
  • Coordinate with Board Treasurer

BUSINESS/GENERAL MANAGEMENT

  • Manage day-to-day office administration and operations, including system backup, records management and marketing and program archives
  • Supervise/coordinate part-time and consultant resources

CONTRACT/PRODUCTION COORDINATION

  • Negotiate contracts for consultants and venues
  • Serve as primary production coordinator overseeing day-of-show logistics (e.g., venue set-up, catering, artist payment, etc.)
  • Ensure timely completion and placement of programs and other promotional materials

OTHER SKILLS

Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel required
