Job Description
The Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP), an established and nationally respected arts non-profit organization, seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Marketing and Community Relations Manager to join its staff. It is the purpose of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association to maintain the finest possible youth orchestras in order to inspire and educate young people through performing symphonic music and to provide a cultural asset for the community.
The Marketing and Community Relations Manager takes ownership of the Portland Youth Philharmonic’s earned revenue goals and manages the promotion of the organization’s concerts and programs. Primary responsibilities include marketing and audience development strategy and implementation, advertising, publications, publicity, institutional branding and public relations. The Marketing and Community Relations Manager reports to the Executive Director and attends meetings of the Board of Directors.
The position demands attention to detail while offering the satisfaction of positive youth development and promoting excellence in classical music. The successful candidate enjoys interacting with musicians of the organization and their families and contributing to a supportive team environment. The new team member will be required to work collaboratively in a small group environment as well as work independently. Work hours will be Monday through Friday with occasional after hours attendance at evening and weekend events.
Required qualifications and experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years non-profit management experience
- Training in marketing, advertising or a related communications field
- Experience in budget planning, monitoring and reporting
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Excellent project management skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines
- Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office
