Job Description
Chattanooga Symphony and Opera is seeking a Marketing Director responsible for promoting CSO activities, with primary oversight of all aspects of concert sales. The position supervises the box office function and is the lead staff member in overseeing the preparation of all marketing materials, ticket sales campaigns, and communications with patrons. Principal duties include overseeing annual season subscription campaigns including necessary brochures and materials; overseeing individual concert sales campaigns including necessary advertisements and mailings; creation of concert programs including program ad sales; coordinating front of house and box office volunteers for concerts; and public relations including media relations, website oversight, email announcements and patron events.
The Marketing Director is a senior-level position and an integral part of the CSO management team. His or her input is vital in developing programming and setting pricing for future CSO concerts. The Marketing Director is the CSO’s staff member who leads the way in establishing appropriate customer service for all patron contact with the CSO, whether in person, by phone, or on line. The Marketing Director is the chief staff liaison with the Board of Director’s Marketing Committee and is responsible for developing an annual marketing plan focusing on each aspect of promoting and selling the CSO. Because of the integrated relationships between marketing and development, the Marketing Director also works closely with the Development Director in securing sponsorships for concerts, recognizing donors, and creating and implementing special fundraising and patron events. The Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have concrete, demonstrated success in increasingly responsible marketing positions with a symphony orchestra and a passion for orchestral music. Ability to analyze sales and respond to trends is critical.
Skills and Specifications
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to obtain and analyze information related to sales and marketing
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent technology skills
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of classical music
- Previous marketing experience required, experience in arts marketing preferred, with demonstration of increasing responsibility in previous position(s)
Salary range: $50,000 to $62,000
